Open ApendectomyI recently had an open appendectomy done. I was done on a Sunday. Re: Open ApendectomyI too, had an open apendectomy. I went to the hospital on Saturday, took all the tests and they found that I had appendicitis and gall stones. They kept me overnight to decide which surgery should happen. Sunday it was decided, appendix will come out! I have a 4 inch cut on my side, five staples holding it closed. The appendix was chronically inflammed, which means it has been sick a long time and developed a lot of scar tissue around it, which took the doctor 1.5 hours to cut free. I stayed in the hospital on Sunday night and went home on Monday. I felt fine to go home. Sure I am sore and have a big cut, but I sleep better in my own bed and was given pain pills to handle discomfort. I go to the surgeon on Friday to have staples removed, then make an appointment in about two weeks to have the gallbladder laproscopically removed, in about two weeks as an outpatient. I can't see needing to stay in the hospital any longer for recovery from the appendix. Here I am on Tuesday, typing on the computer!
