Open Wound - Appendectomy

Post a new topicby cmagnus on Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:18 pm

I'm 30 yrs old and just had a laparascopic appendectomy. After the stitches have been removed around 5 days after the surgery the top stitch opened up and some brownish fluid came out. The hole later closed after 3 weeks. But in the middle of the entire stitch line (downwards) my skin started becoming red and inflamed like some fluid is stuck in it. The wound (with water) soon expanded to about an inch long in the stitch line. It was painful. The day after waking up, the wound burst, it create a new hole where all the fluid came out. I asked a few people and they said it was seroma.

The new hole is still open and I always clean and dress it up with bandage twice a day. This new hole is getting bigger and its going down the stitch line. Now the hole is about 1cm down about 1/2cm wide. There is no more fluid coming out of the hole. Is this normal?? Will this new hole just close and dry up just like the first one? I am just afraid the hole would grow bigger and open up the entire stitch line (where it inflamed about 1 inch). I would greatly appreciate your medical opinion.
