Perforated Appendix Recovery Question?Hello I am new to this forum. I just had a perforated appendix two weeks ago and I had to have an emergency appendectomy surgery. I am seeing my doctor this week. As a bodybuilder, and an avid active person, when can I start lifting heavy again? It has been very depressing lately, with the only activity that I can do is walk on a treadmill. Is there any other activities that I can do safely? I had laparoscopic surgery so the incision is very small. Thanks!
Re: Perforated Appendix Recovery Question?HI there! So sorry yours burst! I bet that was painful. I just had my appendix out Thursday. But it didn't burst. I was told no heavy lifting for a month. And not to lift anymore than 15 pounds now. Consult your doctor. But you do not want to start lfiting and get a hernia and then be out for longer time. I am an RN and I wont even be back to work until Dec 19th due to the heavy lifting I do. I know it sucks but you have to let your body rest. HTH!
Re: Perforated Appendix Recovery Question?I know what you mean! It was been over four weeks now and I just started to lift weights light last week. I might have pushed it too much because over the weekend I had a temp of 102. I think I have a touch of the flu though. This last month has been awful!! LOL
Re: Perforated Appendix Recovery Question?I to am a very active person, just had my appendectomy a week ago. Non-complicated. I see my surgeon tomorrow and will be asking her the same question. How long do I need to wait until I can workout and lift heavy items?
Re: Perforated Appendix Recovery Question?I waited 3 full weeks before I went back to the gym. I didnt lift anything over 40 pounds for about a month. really take it easy. It took me a while to get back into full swing. The first time I did crunches I definitely felt it the next day. If you baby yourself, all the better. But if you dont and push yourself, you can over do it. Better to be safe than sorry!
