Question about fishing line after surgery

My friend had an appendectomy and after healing and everything OK she comes to me and shows me a node like thing above her incicion site and in her skin that was movable. It felt like a large BB. Th Dr. told her her it was fishing line. No other explanation. I want to know what this term means.
