Day 8 of colon resection

Post a new topicby livingwith on Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:22 pm

I am doing better than I had expected. I had 8 inches of my colon removed near the rectum for a large polyp that was benign. The worst part of all of it was the drainage tubes that I woke up with to keep bile from getting to the newly stapled colon. After 2 days it was removed and my husband said I was a new person after that. I hated that part.
I’m thinking I must have had a reaction to the tubing as I filled 8 of the little plastic bags they connect to your night table with tissue...Read the full article

I think you are doing well for so soon! I had 10 inches resected very low like you due to cancer on 4/25. Luckily it was non-invasive. What helped me was adding Metamucil fiber 1-3 times a day. It bulks the bm up and also absorbs water. After complaining about "going" so often, I am now on prescription Immodium, and still experiment with the amound needed. I still go most of the morning, and sometimes in the evening, but can manage a few good hours most afternoons. Wet wipes and A&D Ointment and warm baths help with soreness in that area.

My Gastro doc (whom I asked to see when the surgeon could no longer help me) said I will never be 100% but closer with meds. Processed foods, fats and meat don't work for me. They are harder to digest. I eat healthy, mostly vegetarian with a little fish sometimes. Drink a lot of fluids.

Ask to see a gastroenterologist if you are still going often in a few months.

Good luck to you!
