Left Colectomy Surgery Diary

I am a 45 year old female… I have hereditary diverticular disease that has claimed the lives of several of my family members.
I was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 35, but know that I have suffered from this disease for far longer. I can remember having an attack at the age of 21 when I was in college. I had barium enema imaging several times over the years to track the progress of this disease. I should have had this surgery years ago, but just could not wrap my head around it.

Great job, livingwith! I had emergency surgery on my colon five weeks ago, not laparoscopic needless to say, as my colon was full of its usual contents at the time, but your postsurgical experience was very similar to mine. I hope you're doing better every day. It helps to know that other people are going through the same trials and tribulations.

Thank you for this post. It was very helpful. Reading about you recovery really did help me to understand that I could expect good and bad moments and a bit of a roller coaster. And I'm sure others will find this very helpful too.
