sigmoid colon resection success

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:48 am

i’m a 55 y.o. male with a history of diverticulosis. last month it was determined that i’d need to have ~8″ of my sigmoid colon removed via “traditional” surgery.
i had the surgery two weeks ago and, despite having developed / survived dvt’s, i couldn’t be happier with the results.
surgery apparently went well and i was moved to a semi-private room. when i woke up i had a few lines in me, including morphine drip. no pain… not much of anything, r...Read the full article

Welcome to the club. I am 75 and had the same surgery on 2/26/09. Lap. type of surgery . In the hospital 3 days everything went great. After 3 weeks was back to cutting my grass. A lot slower mind you but cutting non the less. Good luck.

I'm glad I read your post. Will have colon resection this coming Monday, January 4th 2010. Have been really nervous about it. The Doctor mentioned that I may have to have a blood transfusion and there is an increased risk of infection. Hope I will do as well as you have. I turned 50 this year and all my parts need tweaking I guess. Ha!

I am 57 and had a colon resection on Dec. 10. Just had my staples removed today. I was very apprehensive about the surgery (it was due to diverticulitis). The day after surgery, my tummy was already starting to rumble, the next day I had my first bowel movement and by the fifth day, I was heading home. So far, I've had no diarrhea and just a little pain. Doctor says everything is going well, but that the 12 inches he removed were very diseased and inflamed. I'm glad I had it done before something abcessed or ruptured. Good luck to you -- I hope all went well.
