after resectioning

Post a new topicby molliemarie on Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:30 pm

I am new to this site, but after reading the postings thought I would just join. My story goes like this...
I am now 33. I was having problems last year with very loose bowl movements and lots of bleeding. I finally went to the doctor. He preformed a colonostomy in Dec of 06. That day I found out that I had a tumor. How devastating that was to hear. He refered me to a bigger city to a specialist. I went there and they did more test and said that I would need surgery. On Jan. 3, 07 I underwent surgery. I had a foot of my sigmoid colon and anial area removed. The surgery was successful (that I know of). I was in the hospital for 6 days and was out of work for 3 months. The day I left the hospital I still had not had a bowl movement. They said that that was normal, but when I did go I would go and go. Well I never did. They have given me different medicines, but nothing ever helped. I went back in March to my local dr./surgeon he checked me and said that they had sewed me up to small. So then I had to go back in and be stretched open. To this day I still do not have normal bowl movements. Most days I do not go at all. Most weeks I do not go at all. I have tried everything from prescribed medicines, to natural remedies to laxitives and enamas. Nothing seems to work. The enamas and some of the laxitives work at that moment. I would love to find something else. I would love to be normal but I know that will never be. I am open for any information and opinions.

Hopefully this will help:
Vitamin c and magnesium help with bowel movements, natural bowel movements.
The dosage will depend on often you wish to go, you can regulate that.

I hope you are well by now. Have you added fiber to your diet, like Metamucil? I take it 2-3 times a day after my resection. It makes a HUGE difference!

Good luck!
