another resection due to narrowing post surgical

Post a new topicby leahsays on Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:09 am

My husband (37 yrs of age), had a colon resection due to diverticulitis on Jan. 23rd 2008. We were advised that it was in his best interest to have the resection due to flare ups that were difficult to get rid of. His recovery has been horrendous. He has been back in the hospital every two weeks since his initial 7 day stay after surgery. First he had inflammation and a high white count indicating that he had an infection- he has been taking flagyl and ciproflaxin for almost 3 months. His subsequent hospital stays have been due to narrowing at the resection sight, blocking his colon. He has had the area stretched in a procedure where the surgeon used a balloon on the end of a scope and just a couple of days ago now, they put in a stint to keep the area open temporarily. They are saying now that they will need to do another colon resection I'm at my wits end and my husband's morale is very low. Is this something that anyone else is dealing with? We are also very concerned with the number of CTs with contrast (oral and IV), which he's had to do. At what point is this dangerous? He has had around 20 now.

I feel for the both of you. I kind of know what you are going through, but in different ways. My doctor did the same thing sewing me up to small. I had to go back in four months later to have the same procedure done that your husband had done, stretching. I am still having problems. I feel that one of these days I will have to have another resectioning done also. I just have not been back to the doctors. Keep me posted on what goes on.
