Colon Resection on Diabetic

Post a new topicby flojo on Tue Oct 13, 2009 4:48 am

I'm a 62 year old female with type 2 diabetes that am scheduled for a laprascopic colon resection of my sigmond colon on October 15th and I am terrified. Not so much of the surgery itself but the possible of complications caused by my diabetes. Also, several years ago, I abcessed two weeks following a hysterectomy and had to be cut open again(not diabetic then). I also am allergic to most strong pain meds and either begin violently have dry heaves even with anti-nausea meds on board or begin madly itching all over. The Dr. has not ordered any antibiotics for me to premedicate with and that really concerns me. I believed the "Dr. is a good surgeon because a few years ago he opened on my husband for the same type of surgery but because my husband's was so much worse he had to remove almost all his large intestine and part of his bladder and now he is doing excellent. But he is not a diabetic and slow to heal. Since my surgery is so close I don't have time to wait for an answer to my post. Anyone reading this post please say a prayer for me and if I make it thru I will let you all know how it goes.
