Colon Resection, when will i be back to normal

Post a new topicby pv83service on Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:06 am

My name is josh and i am 25 years old. I have had Chrons since i was 12 and was managing it very well. In December of 2007 i went in for a normal colonoscopy check up and they found part of my colon was closing up. From there i was told i needed surgery to get part of my colon removed. I had my the colon resection done on Feb 12 2008, all went well except they had to put in a illiostomy becasuse they wanted my large intestine to heal for a while. They removed just over a foot of my colon. I delt with the illiostomy and had it reversed on May 13 2008. It is now July 1 2008 and I dont feel i am getting any better. The bathroom visits are very often and urgent, all of them have been loose and not formed. I am having very bad pain in my upper stomach for 30 to 40 seconds at random parts of the day and at night i sweat so bad that i have to change my shirt 3-4 times a night. Is this a normal part of the healing process?? I hope some one out there has answers for me, my surgen says she has not answers and i dont have a appointment with my gastronoligist for another month. Any answers please!!

I had a resection due to cancer on 4/25. I don't know about your pain, I would consult your surgeon if you still have it. Definitely add fiber, like Metamucil to your diet 1-3 times a day. It may take a few days to get used to it, you could get gassy, but you can take Gas X or something. The fiber will absorb water and bulk up the stools. It helps for loose or too hard stools. I have horrible days when I don't take the fiber. Also, try not to each meat, fatty or starchy foods. See if that helps, it helped me. Keep a food diary and you will see what helps and what upsets you.

I also take some meds to slow down the intestines a bit, but I had to cut the dose down or had the opposite problem and was gassy. You might ask about it, but be sure to ask about your pain.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear things are not going so well. Hope you called your surgeon back and got an appointment.
Doesn't sound so good. How did you make out with your gastro doc? Did he have any answers for you?
I have an ileostomy and they will be taking it down in October. I had 18" of my colon removed. I had
diverticular disease and thanking God there was no cancer.

Let me know how you made out with the Gastro Doc.

How's it going? I am in the same boat with my husband. Diverticular disease at 36. In and out of the hospital for several years. Nobody could pinpoint the issue. Said he was too young for diverticulitis. Just had the colon resection done on Aug 5th 2009. The first 2 weeks were great. No problems. Said he felt "too good." How did they find your abcess? CT scan?? Now suddenly he is having ab pain, nausea and vomiting. All tests are coming back "normal." How are ur symptoms? The doctors don't give you much to go on seems like.
