Complications after colon resection

Post a new topicby t_ray_g on Fri Mar 07, 2008 2:34 pm

I had a colon resection on Jan. 25, 2008 due to diverticilitis. They removed 12 inches of my colon because of some additional twisting. Not all of the pouches were removed due to a spread in the diseased area. Anyways I ended up staying in the hospital for 11 days instead of the usual stay due to no bowel movement. All was well for a week and a half or so after I went home. I started to notice a little blood in my bowel movement. I was not worried because I had a doctors appointment the next day. The doc just suggested a lighter diet and hemmrohdial cream in case of fishers or hemmroids. About three days later the bleeding got worse so the doc scheduled a colonoscopy with my gi. At the colonoscopy it was observed that I was bleeding all around the resection site, so the gi doc put five "clamps" at the site to try and supress the bleeding. After that I did not have a bowel movement for three and a half days. Well about a week and a half later I have begun to bleed again. I am still waiting to hear from both of my doctors (surgeon and gi). I can not even begin to think of a solution for the bleeding, can I even have surgery so soon after having open surgery? I forgot to mention that i am 28 years old which is one reason we opted for surgery on top of four outbreaks of the diverticulitis Just ranting from a very frustated person, thank you for the ears. If anyone has had a similar experience please share your story with me.
