Is drainage from colon resection site normal?I am writing this regarding an elderly family member of mine who had a colon resection performed on July 24,2008. (While in surgery the doctor said that her cancer had already spread to her liver.) She left the hospital a week later and returned to the nursing home. She did have to go back to the hospital 4 days later because of breathing problems. Her staples from her abdomen were removed on 8-5-08. That same night she had a lot of light-yellow colored drainage coming from her incision site (she did have an open surgery). She has a lot of it today. Did anyone else have this problem after having staples removed?
Re: Is drainage from colon resection site normal?I am surprised she did not have a portal inserted to drain the pus! My surgery was a laporoscopy, so no staples. There will always be pus, but coming out like that concerns me and I would call a doctor right away.
I hope she is better soon. Good luck!
Re: Is drainage from colon resection site normal?I hope you called the doctor on this because a little drainage is ok but if it is excessive that is a different story. Did she have a pen-rose drain in? I think this drain is standard procedure while in the hospital. I hope she is ok.
