Colon Resection

My mother had an emergency resection using the open procedure. It was done at a small hospital with a new surgeon When the colon is put back together, she would prefer the laparoscopic procedure. Is it possible to have it done after the open procedure?

Also, she would like to find another surgeon - one who is more up to date on GI issues - instead of a general surgeon However, most doctors will not take the case over. Is it ever possible to change surgeons?

One last question, can laparoscopic resections to reattach the colon be done sooner than the open procedure?
