laparoscopic colon resectionIt has been suggested that I have a color resecction to remove part of my sigmoid colon due to three bouts of diverticulitis in the last four years. I would like to hear from others who have had laparascopic surgery of this type to see what their recovery time was. Nancy
Re: laparoscopic colon resectionDid you have the surgery done? My husband is in the process of recovery now. Laparscopic colon resection due to diverticulitis also. The surgery went great! No problems. In and out in 2 hours. The surgery was Aug 5th Wed., he went home on Saturday. The first 2 weeks at home, he felt great. Said he felt "too good." Now suddenly 3 weeks approx after surgery, he is having nausea, vomiting and ab pain once he has a BM. About the same symptoms as the diverticulitis. The CT scan on Monday Aug. 24th appeared fine. I am just wondering if this pain and nausea is "normal" still at this point. Spent all day at the ER yesterday, no signs of infection either. Suggestions and/or comments?
Re: laparoscopic colon resectionI did not have the surgery. I saw more doctors and found one who really knew what he was talking about. He only operates is the diverticulitis has been in one spot at least three times. Unlike the other doctors, he said what was key was finding out where the first attack area was when I had my first attack in 2005. that was in the sigmoid area. Come to find out, the second attack in 2008 was in the transverse colon. also, this doctor picked up the my transverse colon does not go straight across but dips down so all diverticular pain I had was in the same region. We don't know where my third attack was as my doctor at that time did not want to give me a CAT scan. So I have not had an attack three times in the same area. My new doctor comes back from his vacation tomorrow and I shall call him for his advice, but I have not had the surgery yet and am watching my diet. Sorry I can't help you with your situation.
