resection in a few weeks

Is a colostomy always indicated with a re-section? If so, how do I cope with that?

No, a colosmy is not always needed. Mine was a temporary one for 6 months. Then, I had surgery to reattach the colon and close up the stoma.

Everything was as the doctors said and my healing was fast and uneventful.

I think they gloss over how things are afterwards.....at least for me. I am trying to find out information about how to cope with frequent, smelly gas and frequency of bowl movements. These alone make resuming a normal life difficult.

I had a colon resection almost 4 years ago and had the same fear. When I went for surgery that question could not be answered. When I woke up, the first thing I did was feel for a bag. I found out that they removed 11 1/2" of my colon and were able to sucessfully re-attach without a bag. They told me they try to avoid colostmy. Best of luck to you.
