should I/shouldn't II've had two unsuccessful attempts to scope my colon because of a badly
twisted (sigmoid?) section with pretty severe diverticulitis It's been recommended I have preventative surgury to remove the affected section. Though I am plagued with pretty severe cramping and constipation, I'm a little worried that surgery is too rash a solution. The doctors say I can do it whenever, but suggest I do it as they believe it's less risky than waiting for a flare-up, and are anxious to clear a path so they can can actually view the colon for cancer issues. Any advice? Should I have the surgery or see if my condition worsens first? Do you folks feel significantly better after the removal?
Re: should I/shouldn't IYes, I feel better. Here is what I siad in another post. I landed in the hospital in June with my first known diverticulitis attack. I had another bout in August and I was just on oral antibotics at home. I decided since I am only 37 years old that I wanted the surgery. I was scared of emergency surgery and the thought of getting the colostomy bag for 6 months. I had the surgery September 26 and the doctor said I was lucky. I had a pretty good absess going on and it could have burst and killed me. I was only in the hospital a few days and I was back to work after 2.5 weeks. It has been 4 weeks now and I feel pretty good. I'm still alittle tired but that is it. Listen to your body to make the best decision for you.

Re: should I/shouldn't Ijust had a double resection 3 weeks ago.my advice, do not wait! two years ago i was cancer free .my latest colonoscopy showed cancer in two places in my colon.the good news is that the cancer was small and did'nt leave the colon walls.not to scare you, but once the cancer gets through the colon walls to your organs you may have 3 months left to settle your affairs. good luck.
norm.
