Colon Resection

My mother had an open colon resection a week ago. They had discovered cancer during a colonoscopy 2 days before so she was really cleaned out well (had not eaten for 2 days before the colonoscopy). She is now vomiting, can not keep down anything. They say they are doing everything, but she is losing weight and looks terrible. She is also short of breath. Any ideas what is wrong?
