What to eat?I had a laparoscopic programmed operation for very serious diverticulitis on December 5th, 2007. Everything seemed to go all right, but ten days later I was back in hospital for emergency surgery stemming from a complication after the first operation.30 cm of my colon were removed - sorry- I don't know what that is in inches, I live at the other end of the world from the UK or USA, in South America. The surgeon told me I had had a small bowel obstruction, a hernia, due to the moving about of my colon. I was five days in hospital the second time. About a week ago the surgeon said I can now eat whatever I want, but I'm a bit scared. I don't want to be on the bland diet I was on before (no fiber) but I don't want to harm myself. I feel fine, just somewhat tired and I used to be a very energetic person. I have fairly normal bowel movements. On Tuesday I'm seeing my gastroenterologist, I intent to ask him also what should I do. Meanwhile, what do other colon resection patients usually eat? Any suggestions? I'd be grateful. I forgot to mention I'm 70 years old.
