inflamed fistula help!!!

Post a new topicby hari1234 on Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:07 pm

i have been told I have a horse- shoe shaped anal fistula with a few abscesses. the one on my left buttock cheek just recently started bleeding with pus drainage. it is getting difficult to sit flat on my bum. anyways, it has been over 4 months that i started having this problem, i was sent for a MRI twice and they could not rule out neoplasm. so i had to undergo a biopsy. then they diagnosed that it is an inflamed fistula. i am now waiting to be referred to a surgeon no one can tell me what the surgery entails- if it is absolutely necessary- the recovery period- the risks, etc....can someone help answer my questions????

Hi,
I have exactly what you have. In August of 2007 had a horseshoe abscess that had to be drained in the emergency room and woke up with 2 incisions that needed to be packed with gauze for a couple of months. The incisions never closed so I was told that I had a fistula and would need another surgery which I did this last June 2008. Still have to see the surgeon once a month because I have what they call a seton in that needs to be checked. My surgeon says that it will take at least a year to completely heal. I have been on this rollercoaster for over a year. You will need to have alot of patience and I will answer any questions that you have because the surgeons do not. Good luck and keep me posted.
