Different levels of pain?

Post a new topicby scaredof operation on Mon Jan 12, 2009 8:24 pm

I have been diagnosed with a chronic external hemorrhoid condition. One surgeon told me that he could operate on it, but it would most likely be painful for around 2 weeks. I went to another surgeon who told me that he could operate on it as a day surgery, and that he did not think it would be painful. He said that I should expect some discomfort for around 4 days. He will not remove the entire external homorrhoid, but only the section that is thrombotic (? I think that is the right term -- like a large skin tag).

Should I be concerned that the surgeon might be minimizing the level of pain? I kept asking him about it, and he kept reassuring me that he did not think it would be bad. I just don't feel up to a painful operation now, but I want to go ahead with it if it will only be 4 days of some discomfort.

Any thoughts?
