Home remedies vs. surgeryI have had my hemerrhoids for almost 3 decades, and have always been able to avoid surgery, even if they do get painful at times. Now they have become worse, though. I'm scared senseless at the very thought of surgery! I've been browsing forums and websites to see if there are any effective home remedies out there. Yesterday I read at some forum about an advice to use frozen used teabags by applying it on the rhoids... It was said that something in the tea causes them to shrink. I tried it, but I couldn't bear the pain of the cold teabag against my rectal area... still tried to keep it there for a few seconds.
The next day I went for a BM, and though I felt the pain and pressure down there, to my surprise the piles didn't come out. They always come out when I have a BM. However, there was a pressure there afterwards. I wished they had come out, so I could push them back in after applying the current medication that I'm using (Neo Healar, used to work at first, but not so much anymore). That was yesterday. This morning when I went to have a BM, I was shocked at the pain I experienced! It felt like nothing was going to come out, but after I couldn't keep the pressure at bay anymore, I finally started to pass the stools, and this time the piles did come out too. Yikes, the pain! I tried to ease the pain with ice-cubes, but again, I couldn't bear the cold. Then I had a sitz-bath. After that I decided to use a warm teabag, used from the previous day. I heated it up a bit in the old tea from yesterday that was still in the pot, and pushed it in between my butt-cheeks. To stop it from leaking, I used a pad (used for periods), but I guess rolled up tissue could do the trick too. So far I've exchanged the teabags 3 times already, and I have to say, my rhoids seem to have calmed down. It doesn't hurt or burn much anymore, though I'm sure they're still there. But as long as they are not irritated, I can handle my stools. However, I came across a home remedy oil on a website, which seems promising. It's called Heal Hemerrhoids oil, and they also have Heal Bleeding Hemorrhoids oil. I wonder if anyone here has heard about it? I'm planning to give it a try, and hopefully it will take care of my piles for good! I want to finally be able to say: "Good riddance!", without having to go for surgery! :)
Re: Home remedies vs. surgeryAw! Don't be scared of surgery. I just had mine done last Tuesday and I feel really good actually. I was a little scared too, but I am one of those "I am not dealing with this crap" people. I am only 29 and have had hemmies since I was about 15. As in both internal and external "OMG-in-your-face" roids. Nice, right? Yeah after two weeks of schedule arranging, and the unfornuate UNSWELLING of my piles (meaning i felt great and was seriously rethinking getting surgery), I finally got the surgery done. If I can just manage to stop eating pizza and ice cream (my weaknesses), then my BMs will get back to normal. I enjoy the two weeks off of work to be honest. I really don't want to give up my daily naps next week :=( Everybody handles recovery differently, so you need to look at your own body and how it handles healing. Make sure you have someone to take care of you too! Being a single gal, i had to have a pal spend the first night with me.
And get some pain meds (the first few days suck).... best of luck, Melissa
Re: Home remedies vs. surgeryThank you Melissa :) You're very brave! Unfortunately I'm a coward when it comes to handling pain, and I'm very scared of even getting an injection, let alone having a surgery done... I gave birth twice, but both times I was very nervous and scared when it was time for the delivery. The first time wasn't bad (I took the epidural), but the second time I wasn't brave enough to take the epidural, but in the end, when the pains were getting closer and intenser, I still took it. I think it was too late, because I felt the pain anyway... and God, did it hurt! Aside from the pain, the discomfort I felt going to the bathroom afterwards... Ughh, I really don't want to go through anything like that again. My rhoids are still a bit painful right now, but it's getting better. I truly hope this oil I'm ordering will help me, because otherwise I may have to go for surgery :(
I admire brave people like you! :)
Re: Home remedies vs. surgeryThanks for your kind words. I don't really think of myself as brave - more like lazy. I would rather have someone take a scapel to my butt, then to eat fiber everyday. Terrible, isn't that? I just wanted to give you an update. It has been one month since my surgery. All was going well except for an occasional itch here and there. About two weeks ago, I had a BM and I don't know what happened but i was in alot of pain (when I wiped that area). I still don't know if I pushed a stitch out, or if I didn't drink enough water that day, but since then, the pain has gone. I would like to add here that those sensitive baby wipes are awesome, and the women in my office have yet to find out who keeps leaving a box of those in the restroom.
I hope the oil works out for you. I can't sit here and tell you all would be painless or easy if you got surgery. Everyone is different too. I hear you on the pain thing - I was in labor 45 minutes and still took the epidural. I have just been one of those people who hasn't had a bad surgical experience (knock on wood) so I sometimes am a little quick to jump into that route. Anyway, best of luck to you! Melissa
