I had my surgery done just 3 weeks ago Jan. 28th 2008. I’m still having a hard time eating. I find that I can’t eat a whole lot at one time. I feel that my stomach has shrunk. I have a hard time trying to burb. Feels like a big pocket of gas that I can’t get rid of. Went out to eat this past Saturday and it was a waste. Forgot and drank my soda with a straw and that was it. My stomach blew up and I got real bad pains. I still not sure of what kind of diet I should be on.

Hi my name is kate and I had a fundo done last september.
The reintrodiction of food has to be done really slowly and can take upto six to eight weeks starting initially with liquid food and then gradualy building it up to soft diet and then more normal foods.Bread ,rice ,mashed potatoes ,chicken and fizzy drinks are all foods you should hold off untill much further down the line. You also have to make sure you eat reaaly small mouthfuls and chew like mad.
There is another refux support group called living with reflx which has a diet sheet on its web site which you may find of help.
Your stomach is shrunk with the surgery but as you build up your diet and get ued to eating that does sort itself out and gets back to normal most people I know loose a lot of weight initially but put it baack on once things have settled down.
Hope this helps.

It will be 4 years in July that had this surgery. I can't drink any carbinated beverages. Everthing I eat has to be covered in either mayo, ketchup or ranch dressing. On day I will be able to one food, the next time it will not "go through". A few days after surgery, I had to have the opening stretched will really did not seem to help. Everynight I deal with the gas bloat syndrome. At times my stomach will ball up and it really hurts. I have had a bad time with this, but I do not have reflux....just other problems. Hang in there, hopefully things will be better soon. As with all.....if I only knew I might have rethought the surgery.
