Miserable

Post a new topicby livingwith on Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:07 am

I had a Laparascopic Nissen Fundoplication 10 years ago, and have had chronic problems ever since. While the surgery did help my reflux, I have had severe bloating, belching, gas, and pain in the surgery area. In the past three months I have had increasing pain and trapped air problems. I can’t get a doctor to find out what is wrong and I am absolutely miserable. I wish I never had the surgery. I don’t know what to do.

My daughter who is 8 years old and has cerebral palsy had the surgery done in January of this year. She did great the first month, but has been screaming for most nights (all night) since the surgery. She can't talk but I believe it is gas as well. We have tried to explain to the doctors but they just don't get it. Like you, we wish we had never had the surgery done either. But now what do we do? I have read that the surgery can't be "undone".

I had the Nissen 10 years ago and it completely stopped all my GERD symptoms. It was a tough surgery to get over and I had spasms for a year afterwards. I can burp but can't thow up. All-in-all I am happy with the results. Now I get a pain in the area of the surgery at night. I wake up with the pain and usually lie on my back for the pain to subside. Sometimes I get pain if I move a certain way while standing. I wonder if the pain has something to do with "position" and why after 10 years am I having this. Also my stomach must have stretched because I've gained a lot of weight and can eat the house if its cooked for me!

I'm miserable too! Had the surgery about 6 years ago. Yeah sure solved the acid coming up but has given me a whole new list of problems. I drink water and get bloated. I'm bloated all the time. My bowel movements were normal before this now I have severe diarrhia and sometimes constipation. I have tried naturopaths, iradology, gluten free diets, colon cleanses. The doctors and specialists just want to give me medication but won't look into solving the problem. I'm still looking for a solution. You are your own best doctor sometimes. I feel for your pain. We are definitely in the same boat.
