Re: nissen fundoplication surgeryIt's been 4 years since I had my fundoplication. I have ZERO regrets.
If only I had been given the opportunity to have it years earlier my suffering from GERD and Hiatial hernia could have ended so much sooner. Sure I can no longer burp. That hasn't been a big deal except that I use a CPAP machine and some nights I can take in enough air to my stomach to make me uncomfortable for a time but it's not really a big deal. Sure I can no longer vomit. I have only been ill a few times and with a few dry heaves the body seems to be satisfied enough to move on with the illness and it runs it's course. Tolerating pain relieving meds for other problems can be a little rough on the stomach but I still tolerate meds better than before the nissen. I recommend to anyone and everyone who will listen to go ahead and have this done. I know this post was awhile back but hope I can help to encourage you.
Re: nissen fundoplication surgeryI had GERD for years and it caused numerous other health conditions, the worse being severe asthma. I wish I had had this procedure done years ago, and maybe not have the health issues I have now. The surgeon was really hopeful, and of course, so was I, that it would alleviate my breathing problems, unfortunately, that hasn't happened. But, I don't suffer from major heartburn anymore, and that makes it all worth it! I have also lost weight, which is a big plus, being that I was about 30 pounds overweight. I say go for it, because it can cause breathing problems and that is very debillitating. I have been on disability for 9 years due to my breathing.
