I had this surgery 3 1/2 years ago. I can say that I do not have heartburn…but I do have alot of the other problems that “they” talk about. This surgery was rough. My out-patient surgery turned into 6 days in the hospital unable to swallow my own saliva.
When I awoke from surgery, I was very nauseated. Of course, I was unable to vomit. The area that they worked on swelled completely shut. After a few days I went back to endoscopy to have the area enlarged some. When things fin...Read the full article

I can relate to everything about your story, as said on some of the earlier post, I was in intensive care for 3 weeks after my stomach herniated into the left chest cavity causing me lung to collapse. They still don't know what caused it to do that, but for some reason it took them three days to figure that out even though I told them something was wrong and that my back was killing me to the point I couldn't even sleep. I couldn't eat, or drink anything either. So on the third day they send me down for x rays...... immediately the nurse called the dr., then got me in a wheel chair and pushed a tube down my nose, raced me upstairs to emergency surgery and repaired my stomach. I was in intensive care for three weeks, one night they called the family in because they didn't think I was going to make it. To this day my stomach still doesn't feel right after I eat. Eating out I feel I get ripped off because I never finish my food. Eating on a buffet I eat less then a child. I wish I had done alot more research before I had this surgery. I had it done in Dec. 2000, and I think it was a pretty new surgery back then, so I'm not sure how much info was out there about it at the time.

If you are thinking about having this surgery, think hard.

If you have had this surgery, I hope you don't have near the problems as I do, and if you do, I'm sorry, I know exactly how you feel.
