The chance that anything will be ripped apart is small, but check with your doctor to see what he/she thinks since they know your case first hand, good luck.

It took me a couple of weeks to get back to normal swallowing. It was frustrating but it did get better. Now if I could just get rid of the gas build up. I have been considering asking my doctor about the prospect of undoing the Nissen because after a year, my abdomen still hurts from what my doctor calls "gas bloats".

Do you still have these "gas bloats" ? I had a lap nissen fundo in march 2007 with a redo operation after 3 days because the hiatal hernia was back already and my stomach was in my thorax half way again. They then used a (Crurasoft ?) patch to help position the different organs and fix them better.
Of course it took time to recover but my heartburn and even long problems due to GERD are much better and as good as completely gone.
But what I still have are also these 'gas bloats' - on the oesophagus side as well as in the abdomen. Painfull somethimes, and embarrasing by moments. Changing diet doesn't help.
