oesophageal air

Post a new topicby kfodenn on Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:10 am

Can any one help me I had a fundo done in september and although was reflux free for the first two months it is gradually returning .I also had great difficulty swollowing and the surgeon ended up taking me back to theatre to have it dilated as it was felt the wrap was too tight.Since having the dilation I have suffered from horrendous oesophageal air I burp all the time and at times it is so bad I cannot swollow as it seems to cause a blockage.
My diet now is so bad I have lost over a s tone and am only maintaining my weight by eating high calorie food like chocolate not very nutritious and is not something youn can continue long term.
Can anyone help me I am desperate to hear from anyone who has suffered the same problems as myself and can tell me what they had to do to sort it out.

Whaooooo!
Pretty scary!
I have Nissen done last week at USC by supposed to be one of the best surgeons.
Pre-op I had a reflux, pretty well controlled with protonics heartburns, and constant burping.
Today: difficult swallowing even water (one teaspoon every 30-45 sec and painful) and burping after each swallow. Assistants stated it's all esophageal. But your post scares me. Also, I thought people like us would be much more nice and cooperative.
I remember a year ago I found a similar Forum with a great coordinator and a lot of people disscussing this subject. I will try to find it again. OK?

thankyou for replying to my post I had honestly given up with this site as no one had ever responded.I am so sorry to hear about your problems,I did not have any problems with drinking so long as I did try to drink to quickly it has only been eating.
Last week we went away for a short break and it was a real nightmare continuosly searching for places that sold food I could at least try, came home three pounds lighter.
I am sure my surgeon will tell me I need to have it redone but I am so scared,it could be the answer to all my problems or it could be the start of yet another disaster and no one can tell me do this or do that and all will be ok.
My husband feels I should stay as I am and just have soup or liquid diet but as I can not seem to make him understand that restriction really makes life not so good I want to be like everyone else and enjoy eating and be reflux free.
Hope you will be feeling better soon and if not improved in the next few days you need to talk to your surgeon because you should be able to drink freely and I am so sorry if my post has scared you I am told my complications are quite rare so hopefully you will be fine and enjoying life refux free.
