three weeks post lap nissenhi
i had the lap nissen performed on 11 july 07 and am still having a little bit of heartburn......i still require to take 2 prevacids a day....... prior to surger I was taking: 4 nexiums 2 prevacids 1/2 bottle of tums 3 or 4 zantac 150's.... Now, granted I am taking much less but each time I eat I feel like it gets stuck in my chest and i cant eat anything with flavor....... i had a general surgeon do this and am not feeling too positive about it....... oh and he told my family post surgery that it would be highly unlikely that i would be able to vomit.... Well.....after i was brought out of recovery i was vomiting blood for about an hour and then dry heaved for the next 7 hours.......why?? At first it was dark blood then it turned into bright blood which has me concerned.....because I am still in pain.... anyone have a similar story?? thanks
Re: three weeks post lap nissenit doesn't sound that abnormal. the blood you vomited could have been above the plication possibility cause by the endotracheal tube that provided the anesthesia. Also it takes 6 to 8 weeks to see initial healing, as the scar tissue increases the plication may get tighter and give you less heartburn symptoms, hang in there it is still early.
Re: three weeks post lap nissenThat gives me relief.....I am just so so worried, he was a general surgeon and i was under the impression that post op that there would be no way that I would be refluxing still...ya know?
I hope it clears up.......because if I am still refluxing into my esophagus thats just ulcerating it even more...I just want relief....have you been through this procedure? Thank you so much for your reply..it means a lot :)
Re: three weeks post lap nissenI have not had the surgery but I am very familiar with it. By the way general surgeons are the doctors that do this surgery,Good luck
Re: three weeks post lap nissenThats weird because I was told by a fellow co-worker that general surgeons should not do this type of procedure because you need to be highly specialized in that area....and a general surgeon is just what it is....
Today I feel like I did pre surgery......I am just miserable and losing weight like crazy..which is not good because I am small anyways... I am going to make an appt with a specialist...I just hope he doesnt want to scope first.....why would he? What he needs to be able to see is the work that was done on the outside....yes?? Thanks for all your help..it means so much
Re: three weeks post lap nissenHi Holly78. I have had the surgery- May of 07- and I did have a specialist do mine. I have had no problems with reflux since, and recommend you go see a specialist. I had a little blood after the surgery, but was told it was from the breathing tube. It took about 2 months before I could eat anything more than soup, but am better than ever now. Talk to a specialist and good luck.
Re: three weeks post lap nissenThank you so much for sharing your experience....I will be seeing a specialist because now I am back up to about 4 prevacids, 15-20 tums and a couple of zantacs 150's per day plus a liquid medication they call "green lizard" it has lidocane and maalox with a couple of other things in it...
I just dont feel this operation was a success at all and it bums me out because you know how painful it is....its sucks plus my incisions arent healing worth a damn and i am quite upset with my doctor...but from what I hear he has a "god" complex, so I wish someone would have told me that before I let this man cut on me and then send me a 20,000 bill...thank goodness for insurance right? Thanks again
Re: three weeks post lap nissenI havent had any reflux since my surgery, so I think you are doing the right thing by seeing the Specialist. I spoke to my Gastro Enterologist and had him recommend a surgeon, so that may be an option for you. Im in Minnesota, if you are close to here I will give you his name, but otherwise I would talk to a specialist about it. I may also seek the advice of an attorney to see if you can go after the Dr that botched the first surgery. I know how bad it feels to deal with the pain every hour of every day. Good luck and my best wishes on your next surgery.
Re: three weeks post lap nissenHi
thank you so much for your help it really means a lot. I am in Oklahoma and the same doc did another scope on me this am and he said my esophagus looks great so he thinks the problems are coming from my stomach...so who the hell knows. After I see him friday to discuss in detail and he doesnt give me some sort of plan for relief then I will go to Oklahoma City to find out what do to from here...I am so sick of the operating room...and I for sure dont really want to go thru another lap nissen...LOL Thanks again :) Hollie
Re: three weeks post lap nissenMine was also done by a general surgeon. Hmmm. Anyone else experiencing MAJOR gas? I was told that many people have it after the surgery but mine has been bad since March of '06 when my surgery was done...it feels like a rat got loose in my stomach and is trying to gnaw his way out from the time I get up til the time I go to bed.
