Re: already had sphincterotomyI have already had botox treatment and this only lasted three weeks. I am nervous about getting a sphincterotomy surgery due to the risk. I was told that you can lose control over bowel movements. I am not sure if I have another choice as I have tried the ointments, laxatives, stool softeners, etc. to try to treat the fissure. Anyway after reading your story I am not sure what to do.
Re: already had sphincterotomyI had procedure done 3 weeks ago after 5 months of agony. My fissure pain is completely gone and spasms too. There are no sines of incontinence , there was not even a transitory one. If LIS is done correctly by experienced CRS surgeon (not general surgeon!!!), it is effective almost 100%. So "shop around" - don't have procedure done just by "anybody" . It is your body and it should be your choice to whom you will entrust it !
I am soooo sorry to hear that you are in the pain still - something is wrong definitely !!! It is very possible that person who performed LIS did not cut correct muscle or did not cut it in correct way. I would definitely ask for second opinion !!!! Best of luck to all : )
Re: already had sphincterotomyI had the sphincterotomy done about 6 weeks ago and am feeling much better. No more of the chronic pain. I occasionally have some smaller spasms and a little bit of pain but not like what I have experienced. I am consistent with taking fiber and stool softeners on a daily basis and this also helps. Thanks for your advice.
Re: already had sphincterotomyOh, I am so happy to hear that : ))) ! It brakes my heart when I read that somebody is still suffering because of this god forsaken condition and there are numerous ways to correct it beside LIS. Yes, stay on "fissure diet" at least for a year - even when fissure heals that area is prone to re injury until tissue regains complete
original strength. By one year it regains about 80% of its strength- at least that is what I read in one research paper. All the best ! x: )
Re: already had sphincterotomyWell did you have the surgery? After reading your story you sound like the position I"m in. I have been dealing with my problem for about 3 years now on and off, I think I'm resulting it to stress and lifting, but i was recommended for the surgery. I'm hung up on that 5% chance of messing myself. I'm only 40 And not ready for a diaper. But I don't think I can live with the red Hot Poker feeling the rest of my life. I don't know what to do. So if you have any advice please help me?
Sincerely, Anal
Re: already had sphincterotomyI felt like the surgery was worth it, regardless of the small percent of people who experience incontinence.
