I suffered for 8 months with a fissure, before I found a doctor who would listen. I had the spincterotomy [sphincterotomy] done yesterday! I wish I would of had it done sooner. Don’t wait for months, get it taken care of asap.

Ugh. I totally know how you feel. I have been living with fissures for about 6 months before I found someone who would take care of me as well. I had my surgery a few days ago - a subcutaneous lateral sphyncterotomy and a fissurectomy. I went through three different doctors who told me to "wait it out" before I found one that listened. So much pain and painkillers later, I have finally gotten it take care of it. The recover process is hurting, but it is definitely a different kind of pain than before. A "healing" type of pain. Which I am fine with! I have been taking sitz baths and eating fiber. I have to admit that my first BM was VERY scary, and there was blood.

The interesting thing is that my fissure was actually the result of a misdiagnosis of a Pilonidal Cyst. I have had the cyst for about a year. My PCP had been treating the "flare ups" with antibiotics and pain medication. Well, I tried ever antibiotic available and ended up having the worst diarrhea ever. So the over use of antibiotics prompted the forming of my fissure. And when no one would treat me as needed, it had gone on so long that I needed a sphyncterotomy as well.

Anyways, I am glad it is done. Hopefully I will be pain free soon. This is totally embarrassing, but it comforts me to see other people writing about it. Thanks for your posts!

Hi, was just wondering, if a year later you are completely free of fissures? Was there any reoccurence? How was the healing after the op? I had mine 6 days ago, and wasn't recommended the Siltz baths at all - but am washing after every BM. Thanks
