anterior cervical fusion with plate failureI am a 36 year old female, I had an anterior cervical discetomy fusion with plate 6-2000. (I was in a car accident 6 years ago.) In November 2000 I started having sore throats and trouble swallowing. It continued until April 2001, I had an x-ray done it showed a screw lodged half inch in my esophagus. I had surgery again in June 2001 to replace the plate the doctor was not able to replace the plate, I was told all 6 screws were coming out. (The bone density is fine.) I still have pain in my neck, tingling in my arms. Why would the plate fail? The first surgeon put the plate in because I have degenerative disk disease. I was told it needed to be in to help with stabilizing my neck in the future.
Re: anterior cervical fusion with plate failureIt sounds like a very difficult situation you have been going through. I would suggest that you ask your neurosurgeon about the specifics of the situation, as a surgeon would be the best specialist to answer your question.
