blood clots in the spinal cord

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Jul 10, 2001 3:41 pm

My mother was diagnosed with a blood clot in her spinal cord by the University of Chicago. She is in her late Sixties, UoC wants to do surgery to remove this clot. Can you please tell me a name for this condition, what the risks are?, and where to find additional information on the web?
thank - you

You may be referring to compression of the spinal cord by a epidural hematoma (less commonly subdural hematoma). These are clots of blood that can form in the different spaces of the coverings of the cord (called the meninges), and can cause different neurological symptoms. You should ask the doctors caring for her waht the conditon is and all of your other questions. I hope she does well.
