disk hernination

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Aug 07, 2002 3:23 pm

I am a 40 yr old female. MRI shows herniation L5S1. x ray shows some osteo at L sacoriliac joint. Some med. professionals say that this situation can cause swelling and immobility of the joints(ankles, wrists, and now the elbows)MRI done only on Lumbar.)Others say that It cannot. I feel it makes perfect sense that it could. I lifted a 50# wheel of cheese and felt a pop. from that day I felt like my left leg was only partly under my control. from then, my left knee swelled, then the right, then pain in my feet, then pain down my arms, and swelling and lack of mobility in wrists, feeling like muscles in upper arm drawing. I have been going to Chiropractor and PT. Both are helping. Tests have been taken(RA Factor 4 times negative)I guess my big question is the inflammation. Can it happen and how often. I've talked to quite a few people who have had it. I've had it a good 6 months. It does go away for the most part if I lie down. Thank you Rachel

It is possible that an L5S1 nerve root syndrome could give rise to back pain, leg pain and some of the other things you describe. For example, if you were wlaking abnormally, pain in your knees or ankle might develop. Symptoms in your upper extremities would not be expected.
