Excessive sweating and spinal cord

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Oct 08, 2002 11:30 pm

Hi
I am paraplegic t4-t5 for 16 years.
In the last few months I have had excessive sweating BELOW my break.I feel chilled inside, can't get warm but am sweating terribly, have to change my shirt 3 to 4 times a day. I've also lost some weight, about 15 pounds and having trouble putting weight back on.
I went to my doctor he thought possibly thyroid or premenopause, ( I'm 37). Was checked and everything is normal. Had a cat scan of basically my whole body, from head to pelvis. Nothing. Now when I'm driving I'm getting a surreal feeling, like I feel alittle fuzzy. My doctors don't seem to have any idea what is causing this. Has anyone ever heard of these symptoms before, could they be related to my spinal cord injury? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cathy

Hi Cathy, sounds like autonomic dysreflexia to me but if you have had all those tests done and found nothing that is strange. Did they do a cysto on you to check your bladder? In the initial stages of my injury when sweating was a big issue the doctors gave me scopolamine (gravol) transdermal patches. You put in on behind your ear and change it every few days. Voila, no sweating.

I agree with Andromeda, also I assume they ruled out a bladder infection. A cystoscopy and a urodynamic test maybe of value, Good luck.
