Hopefully you have seen your doctor, and consulted a neurologist. A full exam, history and often tests such as MRI of the lumbar spine may need to be done. There ae many different causes of back pain, and the treatment should be directed to the underlying problem. Antiinflammatory medications, muscle relaxers and medications for chronic pain may be helpful (Neurontin, Elavil, Ultram, Zanaflex) as well as different forms of physical therapy. Good luck.
