Herniated disc L4- L5 and Hip pain I have two herniated disc L4 and L5. I have been suffering with this problem for over a year now. I had one epideral injection and my insurance co. will not cover any more. I am on Darvocet for pain. I was on Elivil but had to get off because of hair loss. I have epilepsy so I am also on Topamax. My question is, the pain is so severe in my left hip. I can't lay on it at night. I haven't been able to sleep on my left side for over a year. If any pressure hits that hip it shoots pain down my leg and in my stomach and back. I have had x-rays on the hip and they say it is O.K. Is it normal for disc problems to hurt like that? I have no leg strength. I can't walk up or down stairs. I can't work at all. Will these disc ever heal?
Re: Herniated disc L4- L5 and Hip painIt sounds like you are really in alot of pain. Your doctor and you will have to decide if surgical treatment is an option. Other medications for neuropathic pain such as Neurontin, Ultram may be helpful. If the injection was helpful, and surgery is not an option, you might try to get the insurance company cover another treatment. Nerve root irriation from a herniated disc can produce severe pain, often radiating down the leg , and can include the hip region, but certainly your doctor should make sure there is nothing else going on. Good luck.

Re: Re: Herniated disc L4- L5 and Hip painI have exactly the same thing. My L4 and L5 bug the hell out of me and my hip gives me excrutiating pain. I have lower back spasms like crazy. I have been doing the "adjusment" thing for a while. I try to be patient with it because my chiropractor says I need to see him for four months. Its been three and a half months and no improvements. I found about VDP (vertebrae distraction pump). What is your take on it? The bone and muscle structure are as healthy as an ox. Plus they said it can be corrected.I really want to get back on the football field. I'm becoming desperate. Please help.
