Herniated disk with no compression

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Apr 16, 2002 12:37 pm

Hi,
I had an EMG which shows an S1 radiculopathy and the urologist says I have bladder dysinergia.
I just had an MRI of my whole spine, and my PCP told me over the phone, that there is a small herniated disk but there is no signs of compression of any nerves.
I have severe pain in my lower back, feet, and legs. I can barely move my toes.
I have numbness in my fingers and pain and weakness in my arms and hands. I also have a stiff neck with pain in the back of my head, and I can't turn my neck to see when I'm driving.
I have episodes of vertigo when I look up or roll over in bed.
I also had a CT scan 10 years ago that showed arthritis in the sacroiliac and spine, but my PCP said there was nothing showing now but the herniated disk and it wasn't bad enough to be causing me any pain.

What are they missing? Is there anything better than an MRI?

My back pain started after I was hospitalized for a severe pelvic infection and cervicitis/cystitis, and it was thought for many years that my back pain was from the PID I just recently had a hysterectomy with no relief.

Thank you so much!

It sounds like you might best see a neurologist. After a careful exam other diagnostic testing, such as MRI specifically of the cervical or thoracic or lumbar spine (if detailed individual studies werent already performed) might be helpful. The bladder function abnormalities you describe might suggest and underlying neurological problem, and the neurologist might be helpful in this regard. Good luck
