MULTIPLE BACK X-RAY IMPRESSION INTERPRETATION

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Jun 21, 2002 8:52 pm

I am searching for interpretation of my diagnosis into plain language. Also, any possibility of proving that my diagnosis relates to a traumatic injury?
I'm a 42 year old female, injured in 1988, chronic back problems for approx. 10 years.
X-RAY IMPRESSION 1: Lumbosacral Spine Case outlines degenerative disk narrowing in the anterior margin of the L4-5 disk space with sclerosis and prominent spur formation suggesting a chronic disk space lesion. Schmorl's node deformity without major narrowing of the disk space also is seen in the adjacent L5-S1 disk. Spine appears straightened suggesting muscle spasm. Left oblique view outlines calculous-like density slightly to the left of spine; however, not visible on the AP view and could represent an anterior opacity of undeterminate origin rotated over the left paraspinal soft tissues due to rotation. No indications of cholelithiasis nor other indications of GU disease. Study outlines chronic disk space disease between L4 and L5 with associated changes suggesting muscle spasm.
X-RAY IMPRESSION 2: Approx. 5 mm of retrolisthesis of L5 on S1 with resultant narrowing of the neural foramen. End plate irregularity is seen at L4-L5 suggestive of modic-type end plate changes, as well as an anterior osteophyte. Disk space narrowing is seen at this level. Vertebral body height and alignment are otherwise well maintained though there is notation of straightening of the spine which may be related to positioning. Increased density seen projecting on the AP film at the inferior aspect of L4 and superior aspect of L5 once again likely represents modic-type end plate changes. Pedicles are intact. No fracturs or dislocations seen. Periarticular facet sclerosis is noted from L2-L3 through L5-S1 suggestive of osteoarthritic change. Sacroiliac joints are intact. Mild spondylosis with degenerative disk disease at L4-L5 and L5-S1. Grade 1 retrolisthesis of L5 on S1 noted.
Thank you for your time.

In general terms, the x-ray describes degeneration (wear and tear) of a few of the disc levels. There may be some muscle spasm. Osteoarthritic changes(arthritis) are also present. Your doctor will be able to go over the detailed findings and interpret them in light of your clinical history.
