neck pain/catching

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Jun 19, 2002 2:38 pm

Last April, I had a bike accident. I was jumping a ramp and was in the air coming toward a tree stump. My left side of the jaw/face struck the stump and my neck snapped to the right and I landed on my chin and skidded across the grass. My jaw was chin and jaw swelled big time. I busted my lip and broke the main vessel in the mouth. I have no feeling under my bottom lip.
Three weeks after the accident, I started getting a painful catching sensation when I would turn my head to the left. Over the course of the summer, I started having some tingling/numbness sensations in my left hand and pain in my left forearm. By the first of winter, I went to a (referred) General Vascular Surgeon The referred Dr. suspected Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. I had the test done where they check your blood flow (not sure what it's called)and also a whole bunch of cervical x-rays. They found an osteophite, but didn't think that was causing the problem. The Dr. told me He thought I had TOS and referred me to a neurologist. Upon a verbal consult, no exam, He told me I just inflamed the tissue and nerves and it would all go away. No tests, nothing. So, I left it at that.
Since March, the pain has gotten worse and the catching is more often. I can get it anytime, unexpectantly, which really hurts. I get it when turning head to left and right. I have gone to sleep months ago and woke up with my right arm completely numb and went back to sleep. Woke up later and my entire left leg was numb. I woke up this morning...my entire left leg was numb and my neck (lower left) is painful. It is a sensation like it is caught between it's normal groove. It's more like the catching I get, but this has not gone away as of yet.
My question is: Where do I go from here...what type of Dr. should I see? I don't believe I want to go back to the other two I had seen. I'm not sure whether to see a neuorosurgeon or orthopaedist. Any help would be appreciative. Thanks!
