In some cases, spina bifida occulta may be found incidently and result in no clinical symptoms. If associated with findings such as a "tethered cord" (an abnormality of the spinal cord and roots) problems in the back, lower extremities, and with bladder or bowel function may occur. Back pain is very common, and can have many causes, but there are treatments that your doctor may suggest.
