Trauma Causing Seizure

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jul 28, 2002 6:32 pm

My friend was attacked and struck in the back with blunt object. Since the attack he has been experiencing 1-2 seizures a day, they last approx. 15 seconds to 5 minutes, he senses that the seizures are coming, he describes it as water logged ears like your in a pool. He becomes dissorientated and has involuntary arm movements, after the seizure is done, he remains postictal for about 10-15 minutes with no recollection of the seizure He refuses to see a Dr. because he has no insurance, due to a recent layoff. He still has the back pain and initially you could barely hear a crunching sound coming from his back. I'm trying to convince him to see a Dr. but I need more info to convince him. What do you think the cause may be?

thank you,
Brian

You should have him read all about seizures so he can understand that they can lead to many problems if not controlled, including what is known as status epilepticus, (continuous seizures) that can even be life threatening. There are laws restricting driving and other activities in each state that he needs to be aware of. He needs a full evaluation; most cities have resources for persons wihtout insurance.
